William “Bill” S. Sokoloski passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024, after a long illness. Bill went to be with his Heavenly Father peacefully, with his family by his side as he was cared for at the Ottawa County Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor, Ohio.
Bill was a loving and supportive husband and father who was adored by his family and close friends. He always tried to leave a place better than he found it. Many will remember him for his sincerity and how he enjoyed chatting with others. His family will remember him for being a good provider, incredibly helpful, his big smile, and his love for Port Clinton and Lake Erie. Bill enjoyed life most when he was fishing, golfing, or duck hunting with family and friends. His family will hold him near and dear to their hearts forever.
Bill was born in Port Clinton August 14, 1941. He graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1959 where he was on the track, football and basketball teams all four years and captain of the football team his senior year. He served in the Navy from 1959 to 1962 and was a crewmember on the U.S.S Sea Poacher submarine. In 1969, Bill graduated from Tiffin University with a Bachelor of Commercial Science. While studying in Tiffin, he worked as a barber. He started his professional career as a Senior Field Auditor for Standard Oil in 1969 and then in 1972 joined the Celotex Corporation as their Plant Controller retiring after 29 years of service.
January 25, 1969, Bill married Janet L. (Finke) and they were blessed to enjoy many years together spending time with their family and friends.
Left to cherish Bill's memory are his loving wife of 55 years, Janet; daughter Jennifer Sokoloski; son William Peter (Lisa) Sokoloski; granddaughter Claire D. Sokoloski; brother Nick (Linda) Sokoloski; niece Lisa Verdic; brother-in-law Denny Finke; nephew David (Jeanette) Finke; and cousins, great nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents: Stephen and Verdine Sokoloski; sister: Carol Cottrell; sister-in-law: Marsha Finke; and niece: Darcy Finke.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Neidecker, Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton St., Port Clinton. A Memorial Service, officiated by Pastor Jerrod Schaaf of St John’s Lutheran Church will be 11 a.m. -Noon. A private interment will be held on a later date in Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor.
The family extends a big thank you to the staff of Riverview for the compassionate day-to-day care they gave Bill and how they supported his family.
