William P. Ginn, Jr.

November 22, 1950 — August 1, 2022

William P. Ginn Jr., 71 of Oak Harbor, OH died unexpectedly Monday, August 1, 2022 at his home. He was born November 22, 1950 in Youngstown, OH to the late William P. and Violet M. (Humphrey) Ginn Sr. He graduated from Whitmer High School in 1969 then entered the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Bill retired in 2003 from the Toledo Police Department following 31 years as a Peace Officer. For fun in his retirement, he worked at and was a staple at the Wild Wings Restaurant in Oak Harbor. He said, he was the oldest dishwasher in Ottawa County, and could be seen at the end of the bar having a friendly conversation with anyone who walked in. He had the gift of gab for sure! On November 16, 1974 he married the former Kay Hofmann. They spent many years camping and attending sporting events with their children. Being Catholic, he was a HUGE Notre Dame fan! Attending many games. Even attending a November 1992 game with his son in shorts and freezing due to the unexpected snowfall. He loved anything Irish, even traveling to Ireland. Yes, he kissed the Blarney Stone. He held memberships in the Hiberminians, NRA and Knights of Columbus. In 2005, with the Red Cross he went to Gulfport, Mississippi to help the survivors of Hurricane Katrina. He was an active member of VFW Post #606 for many years and cherished his extended VFW family. Bill enjoyed golf cart rides with his dogs, cooking and could often be found watching “Tik Tok” videos on how to make different meals and funny animal videos. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Kay of Oak Harbor; daughter Tricia (Matt) Enix granddaughter Grace Enix of Leesburg, FL; son William P. Ginn III of Oak Harbor; sister Patricia (Jerry) Lipowski of Brooklyn, MI; nephew Jerry (Jill) Lipowski, Austin & Paige of Nashville, TN; niece Kim (Brian) Winkelman, Ryan & Anna of Dundee, MI; Ron Mulcahy, Sam & Alex of Columbus. May the wind be always at your back. May the sunshine warm upon your face And rains fall soft upon your fields And until we meet again May God hold you in the hollow of his hand.
