William J Szabo

William J. Szabo, 73, of Columbus and Put in Bay, died Friday September 26, 2008 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. He was born October 27, 1934 in Cleveland, the son of Louis and Anna (Csoka) Szabo. William was a retired transportation Manager with the US Postal Service. He was a veteran of the US Air Force. He was a member of Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, the Perry Group, the LEIHS and the PIB Yacht Club. William was past chaplain for the American Legion post 542 and was interested in Hungarian history and was a member of the Jr. American Hungarian League. He currently worked as a tour driver for Island Transportation. Surviving are his wife Dianne (Olah) whom he married on September 10, 1960; son Kurt (Bernadett) Szabo of Johnstown; daughter Cheryl (Jay) Peoples of Grove City; grandchildren Devon and Dylan Peoples and Marcel Szabo; and a brother Zoltan Szabo of Cleveland. His parents preceded him in death. Visitation will be held from 10 am Wednesday until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 at Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. Graveside services will be at 12 noon Thursday at Mapleleaf Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Post 542. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mother of Sorrows Church or the Lake Erie Islands Historical Society.
