William Harvey Goodyear

October 16, 1919 — March 15, 2011

William Harvey Goodyear, 91, of Marblehead, Ohio and formerly of Akron, Ohio, died Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Riverview Senior Healthcare Campus in Oak Harbor, Ohio. He was born on October 16, 1919 in Akron, the son of the late Charles and Esther (Olsen) Goodyear. He married Thelma L. Bahr on May 2, 1946 and she survives. William was a veteran of the United States Army Air Force during World War II, serving in Germany, England, France and Belgium. He was a construction superintendent at Alsides Inc., an aluminum siding and window business in Cuyahoga Falls, until his retirement in 1983. While in Akron, he was a Cub Scout leader; Indian Guide leader; Little League baseball coach; sang with the Akron Barbershoppers for 23 years; and member of the Akron Power Squadron. After moving to Marblehead he became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Danbury Twp; lifetime member of the Sandusky VFW Post 2529; charter boat captain for 18 years, and a member of numerous billiard leagues. His hobbies included fishing, billiards, making fishing lures, camping, pheasant and rabbit hunting. Survivors include his wife: Thelma; sons: Timothy C. "Tim" Goodyear, Lawrenceville, GA; and Ted W. (Lynn) Goodyear, Centerburg, OH; grandchildren: Jessica Goodyear, Todd (Kara) Goodyear, Timothy Goodyear, Kelly Goodyear, Kimberly Goodyear; great-grandchildren: Jordan and Cayleigh, Ty and Ava, Emma, and Lily. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Dorothy Mae Wagner. Per William's wishes, he donated his body to science. A memorial service to celebrate William's life will be held on Friday, March 18, 2011 at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 541 S. Church Road, Marblehead with Pastor Christina L. Young officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Rose Hill Burial Park in Fairlawn, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
