William E. Hitchings

William E. Hitchings, 82, of Port Clinton, Ohio died peacefully at home on September 20, 2012 with all his loving family present. He was born in Arcadia, Ohio to William and Anna (Omwake) Hitchings on September 24, 1929. He married Betty Stahl on June 3, 1951 and she survives. He served in the US Navy from 1948 to 1952 during the Korean War. He served on the USS Allagash A097 and the USS Vulcan AR5 as an Instrument Repairman. William was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 2239 for over 50 years. He built homes in Port Clinton and Catawba Island. He also worked on the building of Davis-Besse. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and was on the Dart ball team for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 341, Scottish Rite, Elks Lodge 1718, Moose Lodge 1610, American Legion 113, and the Amvets. His hobbies included watch and clock repairing and collecting. He is survived by sons: Gary (Joni) Hitchings of Sanford, FL; Scott (Jeanne) Hitchings of Port Clinton; daughter: Susan (Barry) Bergman of Danbury Township; brother: James (Sally) Hitchings of Phoenix, AZ; an AFS daughter: Marisol Arrendondo Marquez; five grandchildren; two great granddaughters; three step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers: Robert Hitchings and Raymond Hitchings. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2012 from 2-6pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, where members of the Oliver H. Perry Masonic Lodge #341 will conduct Masonic services at 5:30pm. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 24, 2012 at 10:30am at the funeral home with Pastor James Lehman officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, 207 Adams Street, Port Clinton, Ohio 43452.
