William D. St. Clair, 81, a combat veteran of World War II, died July 3, 2006 at Riverview Health Care Campus. He was born October 11, 1924 in Lacarne, OH, the son of the former Merville Kleinhans and Ivan St. Clair. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Eileen Gerding St. Clair. Survivors include his dear friend, Velma Velliquette of Oak Harbor, OH; daughters, Kathleen (Dave) LaValle of Centerburg, OH, Billie St. Clair Derivan of Northwood, OH, Christine (Gary) Johannsen of Port Clinton, OH and Mesa, AZ; grandchildren: Heidi (Steve) Slobodzian of Newnan, GA, Michael Derivan of Knoxville, TN, Amy Johannsen of Scottsdale, AZ, Julie (Brian) Williamson of Mesa, AZ, Chuck (Frannie) Derivan of Port Clinton, and Nelli LaValle of Columbus, OH; great-grandsons: Billy and Cael Derivan and Paul and Joey Slobodzian and two great-granddaughters: Abby Derivan and Lilly Derivan. Mr. St. Clair was a member of Port Clinton High School Class of 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he took basic and paratrooper training in San Diego. He fought with the 5th Marine Division in the Battle of Iwo Jima and later served in the occupation of Japan. A lifelong Port Clinton resident, he was a member of the Moose Lodge 1610 and American Legion Post #113, Port Clinton. Mr. & Mrs. St. Clair were the first two life members of the Humane Society of Ottawa County. The family will receive friends from 5-8 P.M. Thursday at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Port Clinton, where funeral services will be held Friday, July 7, 2006 at 11:00 A.M.. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton, with American Legion Post #113 conducting graveside military rites. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Ottawa County.
