William A. "Bill" Fritz, 81, of Catawba Island, died Monday, September 17, 2012 at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky, Ohio, with his loving family by his side. He was born on June 5, 1931 in Port Clinton, Ohio, the son of the late Sylvester and Gertrude (Ambrose) Fritz. He married Dorothy Nan Radloff on March 3, 1950 and she preceded him in death on September 1, 2010. Over his career, he worked for Kirk Dairy, Matthew Boats, Port Clinton City Schools, Gem Beach Marina, Clemons Boats, and currently as a grounds keeper at Catawba Island Cemetery. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton, where he was a former Knight of Columbus; former Assistant Chief of the Catawba Island Volunteer Fire Department; former member of the Elks Lodge #1718; former Catawba Island Trustee; and a member of the Downtown Coaches Association. He was an avid Notre Dame fan and ushered for 7 seasons at all home games. Survivors include his son: Larry (Debra) Fritz, Jefferson City, Missouri; daughters: Terri (Greg Hannan) McDougall, Oak Harbor, OH; Sandy (Greg) Mortus, Fairview Park, OH; Jane (Jeff) Grummel, Dublin, OH; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; brothers: John F. Fritz, and Jerry J. (Nancy) Fritz; sister: Betty M. Hallock; and brother-in-law: Richard (Martha) Radloff. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 10:30am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison Street, Port Clinton with Father John C. Missler officiating. Following mass, the family invites everyone to join them at the parish hall for a time of fellowship and bereavement meal. Graveside services and burial will follow at 1:45pm at Catawba Island Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice.
