Willard J. "Bill" Yingling

Willard "Bill" Yingling, 90, of Lakeland, FL died Monday, December 26, 2016. Mr. Yingling was born and raised in Graytown, Ohio, married Geraldine "Gerry" Martin and raised a family in Oak Harbor Ohio. They lived in Toledo before eventually moving to Florida in 1984. Mr. Yingling is survived by; sons, James (Rita) Yingling, Dennis (Carolyn Diane) Yingling, and Lynn (Judy) Yingling; sister-in-law, Marilyn Graber; grandchildren, Eric (Marjorie) Yingling, Alan (Angie) Yingling, Carrie (Michael) Darr, Edward Yingling, Sarah (John) Bishop, Thomas Yingling; and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Yingling was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Geraldine "Gerry" Yingling, as well as, many beloved family and friends. Mr. Yingling enlisted and joined the Navy right out of high school. He served as a Navy gunner aboard the Victory ship S.S. Gainesville. This time was spent in the Pacific. Just ask, and he would have many stories to share, especially about his trips to Manila just after the Japanese left the island. Once home and married with a family, Mr. Yingling was a member of the American Legion, Oak Harbor Post #114, where he served as Commander. At the time, he and his father, Clarence, were the only known father/son Commanders of the Post. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2017 at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 165 Toussaint St., Oak Harbor. Rev. David A. Voll will officiate, and interment will follow at Salem Township Union Cemetery.
