Wilfred A. "Bill" Simon

Wilfred A. “Bill” Simon, age 94 of Virginia Beach, VA, formerly of Swanton, OH, passed away September 1, 2023 at home in Virginia Beach surrounded by his family. Bill was born April 30, 1929 to Wilfred and Laura (Schwamberger) Simon on his Grandparents farm in Caragher, OH. He attended school in Metamora and graduated in 1947. Shortly after graduating Bill joined the US Navy where he served as an Aviation Structural Mechanic achieving the rank of Petty Officer Second Class. After leaving the Navy, Bill had several jobs before finding a passion in driving a city bus for Toledo which he did for 41 years.

On Jan. 10, 1976, Bill married the former Ruth E. Miller. They were blessed with 46 years together. During their marriage they traveled to many places including all 50 States and Europe. For much of their married life they lived in East Toledo and were members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. In 1992, they built the home of their dreams and relocated to suburban Swanton then becoming members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Delta. Family was very important to Ruth and Bill and they very much enjoyed when opportunities arose to get together. Likewise, he had many treasured, close friends that became like family over a long wonderful life. In Feb. 2017 they moved to Virginia Beach, VA to be close to his son and family.

He is survived by his son, Richard (wife Michelle) Simon, daughter, Carol Bentley, grandchildren, great grandchildren. Also surviving, are his brother, Herb (wife Shirley) Simon, sister, Ramona (husband Bill) Schmitz and sister-in-law Sue Simon, nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son - Lyle, brothers - Elwood and Jim sister, Gloria (husband Roger) Bernath and sister-in-law Phyllis Simon.

Services will begin at 1:00pm on Thursday, September 7, 2023 with the family to receive friends beginning at 12pm at Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Elmore-Genoa Chapel 19550 W. St. Rt 51, Elmore, OH. Burial will be in Clay Township Cemetery.
