Wayland D. Smith

Wayland D. Smith, 84, of Oak Harbor, OH, died Sunday, July 9, 2006 at Riverview Health Care Campus, Oak Harbor. He was born in Scotland, Arkansas on August 31, 1921, a son of Virgil & Artie Jane (Bowling) Smith. Mr. Smith was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. An avid San Francisco Giants fan, Mr. Smith was also involved with Little League for many years. He retired as a sales representative for the Morton Salt Company, Carmichael, California, where he had worked for many years. His family was very important to him and he also enjoyed playing golf and tending his yard. He married the former Wanda Stucker on March 27, 1945 in Hutchinson, KS, and she survives. Also surviving is his daughter, Sandra K. Davidson, Oak Harbor; his son, Jeff (Debbie) Smith, Oak Harbor; sister, Opal Williams, Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Kevin, Tyson (Melanie) Shane (Lane), Victoria (Karl), Cindy (Don), Danny (Rachel), Cara, Amber, Nikole, and Felecia; great-grandchildren, Christian, Randi, Luke, Diamond, and Tyler. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Norman, and grandchildren, Steffani and Jacob. The family will receive friends from 6-9 P.M. Wednesday at the Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor, with V.F.W. Post #8732, and American Legion Post #114 conducting military rites.
