Walter C. Busdiecker

Walter C. Busdiecker, 84, of Sand Beach, Oak Harbor, Ohio, died Thursday, March 8, 2012 at his home. He was born on June 20, 1927 in Woodville, Ohio, a son of the late Herbert & Elsie (Wott) Busdiecker. Walter was a 1945 graduate of the former Woodville High School and was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserves. After working for his father as a plumber, Walter started Busdiecker, Inc. Mechanical Contractors in the late 1950's and B & H Electrical Contractors in the 1960's. He was a founder of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Toledo where he served as president. Walter also served as trustee of the Local #50 Plumbers & Steamfitters Health, Welfare, and Pension Board. He held a masters plumbing license in Ohio and Michigan, and was a member of the Welding Bureau, the A.S.H.R.A.E. and Local #50. Walter was a former member of the Woodville United Methodist Church where he served on several committees and was a Sunday School teacher. He was presently a member of the Oak Harbor United Methodist Church where he was active in various committees including the committee for the retirement village of Covenant Harbor. Walter was an accomplished woodworker, and could fix nearly anything. He was a 9 year member of the former Woodville Board of Education and was instrumental in the formation of Penta County Joint Vocational School. Walter played Santa Claus for the village of Woodville for 30 years and was a Volunteer Fireman for many years. A former member of American Legion Post #455 in Woodville, he was currently a member of American Legion Post #114, Oak Harbor. Walter married the former Betty DeMuth on September 7, 1946. Walter and Betty purchased a cottage at Sand Beach in 1963, and moved there permanently in 1984. He was a trustee of the Carroll Township Water & Sewer District. Walter is survived by his wife, Betty of Oak Harbor; children, Jill Busdiecker of Coshocton, Ohio, Jack (Robin) Busdiecker of Woodville, Ohio, daughter-in-law Heidi Busdiecker of Toledo, OH; grandchildren: Christy (Paul Bailey) Busdiecker, Laura (Darren) Burden, Keith (Brandi) Urban, Kati (Timothy) McClain, Corey (Somer) Busdiecker, and Adam (Kari) Busdiecker; great- grandchildren: Teresa, Jillian, and Gweneth Urban, Madison Burden and Kenna and Jake McClain; sister Eunice Kruse of Woodville; and sister-in-law Mary Lou Busdiecker of Woodville. He was preceded in death by a son Andrew Busdiecker and brother Eugene Busdiecker. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-8pm at the Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, where funeral services will be held Monday, March 12, 2012 at 11am. Interment will be in Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Memorial contributions may be made to Oak Harbor United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
