Wallace W. "Wally" Schiller

Wallace W. "Wally" Schiller, 82 of Oak Harbor, OH died Saturday, October 26, 2013 at his home. He was born February 21, 1931 in Oak Harbor, OH the son of the late Henry and Altha (Deal) Schiller. At the age of 12 he delivered newspapers to the troops in training at the Army National Guard at Camp Perry thru the Alexander Family. He was a 1949 graduate of the Salem- Oak Harbor High School. After high school he served briefly in the National Guard at Camp Perry before being drafted into the United States Army. Wally, not wanting to be in the Army, enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on the USS Arcadia during the Korean War. Wally was in charge of organizing many of the USS Arcadia reunions for many years. On July 26, 1962 he married the former Gaile P. Cluckey who preceded him in death September 12, 1996. January 1, 1991, Wally retired from Ford in Sandusky, OH where he worked in the control room as a computer operator. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, and Lifetime and Active member of American Legion Post #114 both in Oak Harbor. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and track, as well as watching the Buckeyes, Browns, and Cavs. Survivors include his daughter Gina (Jim Mosher) Schiller of Oak Harbor; grand-dog "Squirt"; many nieces and nephews. Aside from his parents and wife, Wally was preceded in death by brothers Darrell and Kevin Schiller and sisters: Darlene Crozier, Carolyn Buhrow, and Shirley Crennan. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-9pm at the Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor. Funeral Services will begin at 11am Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at St. Paul United Church of Christ with the Rev. David A. Voll officiating. Burial will be in Salem Twp. Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor where Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post #114 and V.F.W. Post #8732.
