Virginia E Rice

Virginia E. Rice, 87, of Fremont died Saturday July 31, 2010 at Bethesda Care Center in Fremont. She was born February 18, 1923, Toledo, Ohio, to Earl and Faye F. (Damas) McConaughey. For over 60 years, she was married to the light of her life Leonard J. Rice. They had three children; Faye Frances, Helen M. Jess and husband Ronald A. of Port Clinton, Ohio, and Nancy E. Franck and husband William E. of Columbia, South Carolina. Husband Leonard, daughter Faye, her parents, and brothers Robert and Edwin preceded her in death. Virginia spent over 50 years in the Port Clinton area and lived in the family home in LaCarne. She was a member of the LaPointe Methodist Church and the Port Clinton Eastern Star chapter. Virginia worked for the Port Clinton school district as a bus driver and spent over 20 years in the restaurant industry before retiring. After retiring, she and Leonard moved to Port Richey, Florida, where they resided for more then 20 years with their beloved pet Pajo. She returned to the area in 2006, moving to Fremont, Ohio, and residing at Elmwood Assisted Living and Bethesda Care Center, to which the family extends their gratitude for the wonderful caregivers at both facilities. Virginia was an active entertainer of friends and family. She will long be remembered for gracious hospitality to all, her delicious baked goods, and her endless smiles. She is survived and will be missed by her children, seven grandchildren: Judy F. Ehrlich, Monument, Colorado; Stephen J. Burmeister, Lewisville, Texas; Christopher J. Burmeister, Pembroke Pines, Florida; Nannette M. Hunter, Wylie, Texas; Gregory A. Jess, Fremont, Ohio; W. Todd Franck, Oakland, California; and Mark W. Franck, Murray, Kentucky; and eleven great-grandchildren: Jacob M., Katie E., and Lucas F. Ehrlich; Samantha Lohr; Cassandra Burmeister; John V. and Ana C. Burmeister; Ryan P. and Cody M. Monak; and Austin P. and Cydne' E. Jess and great-great granddaughter Daveany Kayle Lohr. She is also survived by her uncles, many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Friends may call from 4-8 pm Monday at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, where funeral services will be at 11 am Tuesday. The Rev. Cheryl Matla will officiate. Burial will follow in LaCarpe Cemetery.
