Virgil A. "Spike" Magsig, 96 of Elmore, OH died Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Genoa Care Center, Genoa, OH. He was born February 25, 1917 in Clark, WA to the late John and Eva (Eckel) Magsig. He served in the United States Army, stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. On April 23, 1948 he married the former Lois Schwartz who preceded him in death March 25, 2009. Spike farmed over 50 years on the Steinkamp- Magsig family farm and also owned and operated the family sawmill business. He was a member of St. Paul- Trinity United Methodist Church and American Legion Post #279 both of Elmore. Survivors include his children: Edward (Kathy) Magsig of Elmore, Carolyn (Bob) Tully of Osgood, IN, Alice (Ricky) Taylor of Chattanooga, TN and Allan (Toni) Magsig of Woodville, OH; 5 grandchildren; and 1 great- grandson; sister Joy Perry of Perrysburg, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois, brothers: Manly, Lewis, and Calvin Magsig. Memorial Services will begin at 11am Saturday, September 14, 2013 at St. Paul- Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor Rob Rakay officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Harris- Elmore Union Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to either St. Paul- Trinity United Methodist Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio. The family would like to thank the staff of Genoa Care Center and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their care and compassion during the time while Spike was a resident.
