Vera V. Mcgee

Vera V. McGee, 82, of Port Clinton, Ohio died Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky, Ohio. She was born on March 10, 1930 in Sandusky County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Floyd and Lois ( Phillips) Long. She grew up in Vickery, Ohio and on June 10, 1950 she married Phillip J. McGee and he preceded her in death on March 22, 1993. Vera worked as a nurse's aide at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton, worked as a bartender at the former Phil's Bar and Grill in Port Clinton, and also at the former Standard Products in Port Clinton where she worked for over 22 years until her retirement. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout den mother for several years. She was the last charter member of the Port Clinton Eagle Lodge 2295 Ladies Auxiliary where she had been a member for over 60 years and where she had served in all positions within the lodge. She was also the Captain of the Ottawa County Billiards League for 21 years; member and Past President of the Lake Erie Grandmother's Chapter 30; member of the Gypsum Sportsman's Club; member of the Harp Rebekah Lodge, and a member of the Moose Lodge 111 of Clyde. Survivors include her sons: James Phillip (Debera) McGee and Robert D. (Colleen) McGee, both of Port Clinton; daughters: Leila (James) Hembree, Port Clinton; Becky (Mike) Fitz, Castalia, Ohio; Marge Guiher, Bucyrus, Ohio; twelve grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers: Edward, Cleo, and Donald Long; sisters: Doris Messenberg, Leila Walters and infant sister: Lois Long. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, where members of the Port Clinton Eagle Ladies Auxiliary will conduct services at 7pm. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 10am at the funeral home with Pastor Jeremy Buchanan officiating. Cremation will then take place with private burial at Meadow Green Memorial Park in Huron, Ohio at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Stein Hospice for all their love and care given to Vera.
