Sylvia J. Cox

Sylvia J. Cox, 67 of Port Clinton, OH died suddenly December 30, 2020 at Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton, OH. She was born May 15, 1953 in Laurel, Mississippi to the late Jessie and Onie Mae (Durr) Dennis. She was married to Mr. Melvin Cox for 31 years. Sylvia retired from the Commodore Perry Federal Credit Union in Port Clinton as a customer service representative. She was a member of the former Gypsum Tabernacle, Port Clinton. Sylvia loved to bowl, do arts & crafts, play cards, and fish. She also dearly loved her family, grandkids, and dogs. Survivors include her husband Melvin of Port Clinton; daughters: Michelle Rawls of Columbus, OH and Jewel Haynes of Sandusky, OH; son Jason Hunter of North Charleston, S.C.; step-children: Richard Cox of Detroit, MI, Ken Cox of Chicago, ILL, Tony Cox of Eugene, OR, Melvin Cox Jr., of Decatur, ILL, and Tina Cox of Decatur, ILL; brothers: Clifton McNair of Sandusky, OH and Lee Horne of Port Clinton, OH; sisters: Priscilla Dafir of Fayetteville, NY, Gwen Empson of the State of Delaware, Sandra Rivers of Philadelphia, PA, Jackie Lockhart of Sandusky, OH, Elizabeth Matthews of Lansing, S.C., Felicia Horne of Lansing, S.C., and Vivian Horne of Port Clinton; numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and additional extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Ronald Horne, Melvin Devese, and Dessalane Devese; and sister Jessinia Scott. A Celebration of Sylvia’s Life will be handled privately by the family. Those wishing to give memorial contributions are asked to consider a charity of the donor’s choice.
