Susan L. Merrill

Susan Louise Merrill, 53, formerly from Catawba Island, Ohio and Flint, Michigan passed away Monday, November 28, 2011 quietly at her home in Flushing, Michigan. She was born July 2, 1958 in East Moline, Illinois, the youngest daughter of the late Richard E. and JoAnn (Jackson) Merrill. Susan graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1976 and continued her education at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio; where she graduated in 1980 with a BA in Business. After college Susan went to work for Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas. Wishing to follow her true passion, Susan went back to school in 1990 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Wright State University where she was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing. After graduation, she became a Register Nurse working at several hospitals in Ohio, New York and Michigan as well as providing home care to those who needed it until the present time. Throughout her life, Susan was a fun loving person, busy traveling, caring for others, and active in the Trinity United Methodist Church during her time in Port Clinton, Ohio. Surviving are her sister: Ann E.(Tim) Merrill Bash of Clayton, N.C., brothers: Richard E. (Kathy) Merrill Jr. of Coldwater, Mich. and John J. (Tricia) Merrill Sr. of Columbus, Ohio, nieces and nephew: Tina (Ryan) Bash Burns, Madeline Merrill, John Merrill Jr., Dawn Bash; and great nephew, Timothy R. Bash. A private funeral will be held in Lakewood, New York after which time she will be laid to rest at Sunset Hills cemetery next to her parents. Memorials, in her name, may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in Port Clinton, Ohio or United Methodist Church in Flushing, Michigan.
