Stella Ruth Macdonald

Stella Ruth MacDonald, 85 of Lakeside, Ohio passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, April 4, 2014, at Otterbein North Shore Retirement Center, Jane Baker House, Lakeside, Ohio. She was born on March 1, 1929 in Gainesboro, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Raggio and Rose (McBroom) Burris. She married Rollin T. MacDonald on February 21, 1948 and he survives. Stella was a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church in Lakeside for over 65 years where she was the longest of any current congregants, and lived in Lakeside for 65 years. She had many friends in the Lakeside community, both permanent and summer residents. Many a night in the summer, there would be gatherings on the front porch with her delicious desserts, iced tea, and her wonderful southern hospitality. She was a very caring and compassionate person, always putting others needs before her own. Her hobbies included all types of hand sewing, including making snowflakes for family and friends Christmas trees.She was also an avid gardener and her yard was spectacular in the summer. She had great success with her indoor plants.She was very active in her church, helping decorate for Christmas, making apple dumplings, painting the sanctuary with her husband and any other task that was asked of her. Survivors include her husband of 66 years: Rollin; daughter: Diann (George) Tyler, of Medina, Ohio; grandchildren: Paul (Stacy) Sohner, Ross Sohner and Rebecca (Robert) Hernandez; great-grandchildren: Christian & Kamryn Sohner, Clarissa Barton, and Ava, Liam, & Mateo Hernandez; brother: Buddy (Elaine) Burris, of Marblehead, Ohio; sister: Marianne (Roy) Osburn, of Cookeville, Tennessee; and brother-in-law: JC Crowe, of Hardinsburg, Kentucky; as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter: Shirley Sohner and sister: Helen Crowe. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 10am until a celebration of Stella's life Memorial Service at 11am at Lakeside United Methodist Church, 450 Central Avenue, Lakeside, Ohio with Pastor Vern Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow at Sackett Cemetery in Danbury Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lakeside United Methodist Church or to Heartland Hospice.
