Sonny Bowen

Sonny Bowen, 89 formerly of Port Clinton, OH passed away on December 25, 2024 at Fireland Hospital, Sandusky following a brief illness and surrounded by his loving family as he transitioned over into the arms of the Lord. He was born June 26, 1935 in Puritan, W.VA. to the late Leonard and Grace (Hunt) Bowen. Sonny worked as a truck driver until his retirement in the late 1980’s.

Sonny would like you to know his work here on Earth is done. He received a “call”, sort of an offer you can’t refuse, for an appointment from which he will not be returning. This assignment comes with a high sign on bonus, a reunion with family and friends that he has not seen in a long time. Job security is exactly 110%! This new mission leads him to a wonderful place where he will be socializing, golfing, playing cards, gardening, buying, selling, and trading guns, and raising cows until his heart is content. Music, laughter and love are guaranteed. Food there is delicious and all the sweets he can eat. Sonny wants us to celebrate his mission in heaven as well as his life here on earth. He will be missed by family, friends and anyone who knew him.

Survivors include his children: Bonnie Warner of Portsmouth, OH, Cathy (Sam) Halstead of Port Clinton, OH, Leonard (Jan) Bowen of Abbeville, AL, Susan Kokinda of Port Clinton, OH, James (Sharon) Bowen of Taylor Mill, KY, Nancy Calvert of Port Clinton, OH, and Lisa Kuras of Port Clinton, OH; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Cindy Baumes; son-in-law Larry Kokinda; brothers: Ted Bowen, Leo Bowen, and Mickey Bowen; and sisters: Joyce Tedlie and Joann Hardin.

Visitation will be Sunday from 3-5pm at Neidecker, Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home, Port Clinton Chapel where a Celebration of Life will begin at 5pm at the Funeral Home.
