Skip Hermes

November 14, 1951 — July 16, 2008

Skip Hermes, 56, of Catawba Island, died unexpectedly on Wednesday while on Kelleys Island. He was born November 14, 1951 in Port Clinton, the son of Peter and Agnes (Baumann) Hermes. Skip was the longtime manager of the Nor'Easter Club on Catawba Island and was an adjunct faculty member at Terra Community College in Fremont. He was a past president and a Paul Harris Fellow of the Port Clinton Rotary Club. Skip enjoyed boating on Lake Erie, but he especially enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandchildren. Surviving are his wife Jane (Cassel) whom he married on October 16, 1998; son Rick (Brandie) Cassel of Toledo; grandchildren Isaac and Adam Cassel; his mother Agnes Hermes of Port Clinton; sister Roseanne (Jeff) Langan of Chatham, Mass; and nieces and nephews Kelly, Caitlin and Michael Langan. He was preceded in death by his father. Visitation will be held from 1 5 pm Saturday at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Port Clinton where services will be at 2 pm Sunday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Ottawa County or the Kelleys Island EMS.
