Shirley C. (Ireland) Velliquette, 93, passed away peacefully, October 11, 2022, with her daughters by her side. Shirley was born December 19, 1928 to the late Harry and Dottie (Druyor) Ireland. She started work at Philco and finished her work at H.B. Magruder hospital where she worked in laundry.
On October 28, 1950 she married the love of her life Theodore A. Velliquette.
Shirley helped build her family home by pulling nails from wood during her pregnancy with their third born child while Ted was at work. In this home, they would raise their four children. Theodore “Joe”, Joanne “Annie”, Lorraine and Terry.
Shirley or Shirl as many called her loved cooking, shopping and spending time with family. While her husband was working you could almost always find her with one or more of her sisters. It was normal for her to pick up her sister Kac and head over to visit their sisters Janice, Gin and Sharon knowing their brother Vance likely would stop by. Her brother Wayne lived in Dayton, Ohio.
She enjoyed camping with her husband and children when they were young. That turned into camping with her sisters and nieces to which they were called the Old Hens.
Shirley was known for her baking and especially her famous lemon meringue pie! She didn’t go to a family reunion or celebration without at least four pies ready to be fought over. She would often sneak treats to her sister Mart during their visit at the nursing home.
Shopping, whether it be garage sales, department stores or resale stores she was bound to find something for one of her grandchildren, nieces or nephews. Shirl and Ted would go shopping and always stop to eat out, often times Pondersa where they made friends with their waitress.
Survivors are daughters Joanne “Annie” Cook, Lorraine (Joe) Harris and son Terry Velliquette.
