Sherry Lynn Smith, 64, of Port Clinton passed away peacefully at home December 7, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 14, 1956 in Athens, Ohio, the daughter of Gary Richard and Shirley (Quensenberry) Scott. Sherry graduated from Athens High School at the age of 15 1/2. She began her work career in a delicatessen on Court Street at the age of 16. Sherry had a varied career, delivering medication and hospital equipment, working as an operator for GTE, and running a paper mill machine. Sherry drove bus for Port Clinton City Schools for 25 years. Sherry's favorite summer job was mowing grass. Following her retirement, she returned to driving bus for another 4 years, and during the summer she drove taxi on Put-In Bay, and delivered Meals on Wheels. Sherry attended Terra State Community College and graduated in 2009 with an Associate Degree in Office Administration and Law Enforcement. Sherry served as Union President for 6 years of OAPSE Local 199, from 2007 to 2013. Sherry was very active in community volunteer services including the local Library, 88 Circle Women’s Book Club, and the Fremont Garden Club. Sherry's heart for children led her to volunteer for Ottawa County CASA as a Child Court Appointed Special Advocate; Sherry said this was her most rewarding and fulfilling job. Sherry was an avid reader, she loved camping, hiking and bicycling. She was extremely talented in crafting something wonderful out of nothing. Sherry found joy in unexpected places, and took the time to enjoy the things that matter most in life. On July 22, 1978 she married the Love of her Life, Jack Smith. The wedding was held in Albany, Ohio at Alexander Presbyterian Church. They have been together 42 adventurous years, covering 38 states by motorcycle. They have toughed through storms, celebrated births and weddings, and cried through sorrows together. Their love for each other gave them the strength it took to get through when burdens were heavy. Surviving are her husband Jack; son Travis Smith and his son Jace, and Travis's significant other Jennifer Phillips and her daughter Emma; son Jacob (Paige) Smith and their children Ava, Hazel and Max; step-father: Errol Coen; brothers: Steve Scott, Patrick Scott, Earl Scott, Eric Coen; sisters: Melissa Ball and Sharlyn Hjelmstad. She was preceded in death by her mother Shirley Florence Quesenberry-Coen; father Gary Richard Scott and step-mother Norma Jean Scott. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 10, 2020 from 2:00 – 6:00 pm at Neidecker, Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1124 Fulton St. Port Clinton, OH where funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 pm Thursday with Rev. Deron Fourman officiating. Graveside services will be held 1:00 pm Friday, December 11, 2020 at Athens Memory Gardens, 7360 Cameron Rd. Athens, OH 45701 with Rev. John Pauley officiating.
