Ruth Mae Marsh, 96, formerly of Port Clinton, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at Southwest General Hospice, Strongsville, OH. She was born March 3, 1926 in Port Clinton, OH the daughter of Samuel and Orilla (Whiting) Halstead. Ruth was one of the original Rosie the Riveter, dropping out of school at the age of 15 to be a heavy equipment operator at Erie Ordinance Depot. Ruth operated a forklift and also loaded guns while at E.O.D. Later in life she worked as a sales clerk at Pier One. She was a member of Port Clinton V.F.W. Aux., Port Clinton Moose Lodge, Port Clinton Eagles Lodge, ort Clinton American Legion Aux and the Amvets.
Surviving are her daughters: Lynn (Larry) Head of Fostoria, OH; Patricia (Greg Panik) Gerstenberger of Strongsville, OH; grandchildren: Greg Byington, Kim (Victor) Spurzem; great-grandchildren: Casey Spurzem, Kayla Spurzem, Nicholas Byington, Michael Gerstenberger. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Billy Dale Marsh; grandchildren: Christopher Gerstenberger, Tara Burkart, Shannon Burkart; brother: John Halstead and sister: Betty Rollheiser.
Funeral services will be private. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Humane Society of Ottawa County, 2424 E. Sand Rd. Port Clinton, OH 43452.
