Ruth E. Scott, age 83, passed away suddenly July 18, 2012 three days after having a stroke while visiting Lakeside, Ohio for the summer, a place she loved. Ruth had been living in Columbus, Ohio since March of 2010. Ruth's husband Bob passed away in 2008. They were married 55 years. Ruth is survived by her only son Robert, daughter in law Cynthia, and two granddaughters, Olivia and Malinda (ages 19 and 18). Ruth was preceded in death by her brother William Haskins in 2009 and has a surviving brother, Donald Haskins (wife Jodi), as well as several nieces and nephews from both the Scott and Haskins families. Ruth was born in New Martinsville, WV, June 25, 1929 to John W. and Blanche (Rogers) Haskins. She attended Marshall University for two years following her graduation from Magnolia High School in New Martinsville, and transferred to West Virginia University in 1949 where she received her college degree in Home Economics and Biology. She met Bob in the summer of 1950 and they were married June 15, 1952. Ruth taught at the local high school and continued teaching after the family moved to Wheeling, WV until 1974 when the family moved to Pittsburgh, where her son finished high school. Ruth traveled extensively with her husband after retiring from teaching and visited and lived in Japan, Mexico, Europe, Florida, Louisiana and the Seattle area. Following a move to the Lakeside area in 2000, Ruth participated in many church affairs at Lakeside United Methodist. Ruth spent the summers going to Hoover Auditorium, enjoying the shows and many other events at Lakeside. She also loved to sew, arrange and always seemed to keep herself busy. Ruth will be missed greatly by all who knew her. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in lieu of flowers are asked to consider Lakeside United Methodist Church or the Public Broadcast System (PBS). Ruth's memorial service will be held Sunday, July 22 at 1:30 pm at the Lakeside United Methodist Church, 450 Central Avenue, Lakeside, Ohio 43440.
