Ruth Evelyn (Heimert) Fastinger, 88, of Oak Harbor, OH passed away to Heaven on Wednesday, June 21, 2017. She was born in Fremont, OH on November 17, 1928. Ruth was devoted to her family and friends, and was always a hard worker and never complained. In her younger years, she worked as a waitress at the former Leona's Grill in Oak Harbor. Later she became a long time employee of the J. Weller Company, Oak Harbor, where she assisted in canning tomatoes and pickles. Her final employment was delivering meals to the elderly in the Lakeside-Marblehead area, often delivering to people much younger than herself. She retired in her mid 70's. Ruth was also a 4-H leader for many years and attended Grace Baptist Church, Oak Harbor. Ruth loved polka music, the Lawrence Welk Show, and usually attended the German American Festival in Oregon, OH. She loved traveling to see her family, and whenever anyone said "Go", she was ready in a heartbeat! Her travels took her all across the U.S. She also was able to go to the Greek island of Crete, and spent some time in Germany and other parts of Europe. Ruth is survived by her children, David (Lois Rex) Fastinger, Connie (Eric) Johnson, Gail Couture, Brenda (Sam) Rose, and John Fastinger, all of Oak Harbor, and Dee (Tommy) Gropp of Apache Junction, AZ. 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also survive. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Fastinger, Jr.; her parents, John & Hattie (Hess) Heimert; and her brother, Bill Heimert. Friends are invited to call from 3-8 P.M. Friday at Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 301 N. Locust St., Oak Harbor. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Grace Baptist Church, 325 S. Toussaint-Portage Rd., Oak Harbor, where visitation will be after 10:00 A.M. Saturday. Pastor Rick Bickelhaupt will officiate, and interment will follow at Roose Cemetery, Salem Township.
