Roland R. Chapman, 83, of Port Clinton, Ohio passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018 at the Toledo Hospital in Toledo, Ohio. He was born on February 2, 1934 in Alexandria, Ohio, a son of the late Glenn and Mary Pauline (Smith) Chapman. He married Jacqueline Schneider on February 19, 1955 and she preceded him in death on January 27, 2015. Ro was a licensed insurance agent and co-owner of Tadsens Insurance Agency in Port Clinton, retiring in 2000. He was also a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Port Clinton, Past President and member of the Rotary Club of Port Clinton, as well as a member of Playmakers Civic Theatre where he held many roles, such as being the Director of the Theatre, and as an actor where one of his favorite roles was playing Professor Henry Higgins in "My Fair Lady". He especially enjoyed gardening and was a master organic gardener, owning his own fruit farm and apple orchard. An animal lover, he enjoyed raising horses, sheep, dogs, cats and goats. He also enjoyed reading to gain knowledge on various subjects, such as coaching little league baseball, in which he took his team to the playoffs. He owned and co-wrote the Black Swamp Trader Gazette, became involved in the re-enactments at the Wolcott house, portraying Benajah Wolcott, the keeper of the Lighthouse in Marblehead, and was also an avid Cleveland Cavaliers Fan. He was also on the Ottawa County Health Board, the Ottawa County Community Development Corporation, and was a Tree Commissioner of Port Clinton. Survivors include his daughters, Leslie (Mark) Soderberg, Cranberry Twp, Pennsylvania and Julie (Mark) Underwood, Port Clinton; son, Thomas (Dawn) Chapman, Catawba Island; grandchildren, Daniel (Jenni) Soderberg, Patrick (fiance, Stephanie Prater) Soderberg, Allison Soderberg, Zachary (Autumn Crosier) Riedmaier, Eric (Jessica) Riedmaier, Kaitlyn (Thomas) Griffing, Keegan Chapman, Caden Chapman; great-grandchildren, Olivia Soderberg, Annabelle Soderberg, Ethan Soderberg, Harry Griffing IV, and two great-granddaughters on the way; sisters, Carol (Richard, deceased) Below and Mary (Gary, deceased) Below, both of Port Clinton; brothers, Jim (Carla) Chapman, Port Clinton and Bill (Sue) Chapman, Fremont; significant other, Darleen Rohde, Port Clinton; his faithful canine companions, Tessie and Annie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and brothers, Richard and Gordon Chapman. Visitation will be held at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, Ohio on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 9 am until a celebration of his life memorial service at 11 am with Pastor Bruce Batchelor-Glader officiating. Following the service, all are invited to join the family for a time of fellowship and a luncheon at Trinity United Methodist Church Parish Hall.
