Rodney L. Mackey, 49, of Oak Harbor died Friday, March 21, 2008 at his residence of Heart Disease related to Diabetes. He was born Jan. 20, 1959 in Port Clinton the son of Robert and Donna Rae (Chio) Mackey. He married Cheryl Johnson on August 8, 1981 and she survives. Rodney worked for Spangler Motors in Oak Harbor for 10 years as a Certified Automotive Technician. He previously worked for Bauman Automotive Group and Gordon Cooper Motor Sales. Rodney was a Buick, Cadillac, Daimler Chrysler and General Motors Certified Technician. He was also an ASE Master Auto Technician and Medium-Heavy Truck Technician. He became a Johnson Outboard Service Technician in 1993. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor; he was a Master Monster Technician at Haunted Hydro, Fremont from 1993-2005; in 2006 he became a PhD Monster Technician at Haunted Hydro. In 2007 he received an Honorary Degree from the Oak Harbor/Penta Chapter of FFA and in 2008 he was presented with a certificate of Appreciation from the FFA Chapter. From 1993 2008 he volunteered for the Sandusky County Builders Association, Home and Garden Show. He volunteered for the Ottawa County 4-H, Oak Harbor Apple Festival Royalty and Harbor Lights Baton Corps. He was a very active supporter of his children and all of their activities. Surviving are his wife: Cheryl; daughter Lynda Mackey of Oak Harbor; son: Robert L. Mackey of Oak Harbor; father: Robert "Skip" Mackey of Port Clinton; brothers: Duane (Audrey) Mackey of Oak Harbor, Joe (Judy) Mackey of Cleveland; aunt Beverly Mackey of Port Clinton; many nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother: Donna Rae Mackey and niece: Rebecca Rae Mackey. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor with the Rev. Cheryl Wessel officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 9:00am 8:00 pm with the family present from 2:00pm 4:00pm and 6:00pm - 8:00 pm at Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ottawa County 4-H Program, or the Oak Harbor/Penta Chapter of FFA.
