Robert W. Schroeder, 78, of Catawba Island, died Saturday, October 22, 2011 at his residence. He was born August 1, 1933 in Cleveland the son of William and Myrtle (Erb) Schroeder. He married Shirley Gruetter and later married Darlene Latus on May 6, 1989. Mr. Schroeder was a building contractor and owned his own company: Catawba Company. He was a United States Navy veteran and a member of the Bay Village American Legion. He was a member of Gypsum Community Church, a Catawba Island Township Trustee for 20 years, a life member of the Catawba Island Vol. Fire Department, a past member of Ottawa County Regional Planning and a past member of the Catawba Island Township Zoning Board. He loved his kids and grandkids and enjoyed giving back to his community. Surviving are his wife: Darlene; sons: Paul (Stephanie) of Norwalk, John (Jennifer) of Catawba Island; daughter: Beverly (Charlie) Horan of Florida; step-daughter: Phaedra Martell of Catawba Island; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters: Betty Lohse of Wisconsin, Doris (Gene) Knoch of Indiana. He was preceded in death by his son: William Schroeder and daughter: Lynn Schroeder. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Port Clinton where visitation will be held Wednesday from 10:00 until the time of the service. Burial will be in Catawba Island Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Catawba Island Vol. Fire Department, Stein Hospice or the donor�s choice.
