Robert Ray Overmyer, 88, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Riverview Health Care Campus, Oak Harbor. He was born in Lindsey, Ohio on April 5, 1925, a son of Ray & Margaret (Stone) Overmyer. Bob grew up in Lindsey, and was a 1943 graduate of Fremont Ross High School, where he was the class Valedictorian. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served gallantly during World War II as a sharpshooter in the Philippines and the arduous two month campaign in Okinawa. On February 27, 1955, Bob married the former Helenruth V. Patz, and she preceded him in death on August 8, 2002. Bob always wanted to be a farmer and he and Helen purchased their first farm in Jefferson, Ohio where they started dairy farming. They later continued farming in Arcade, New York and Prairie Home, Missouri, before returning home to Ohio and their farm in Carroll Township 20 years ago. Bob is survived by a brother, William Harwood (Helen) Overmyer, Amherst, Ohio; sisters, Margaret Shepherd, Louisville, Kentucky and Mary (Joe) Davis, Asheville, North Carolina; nephews, Ray, Everett, and Paul Overmyer, John Shepherd, Ted, Jack, and Bob Moon, Frank Patz, and nieces, Mary Geer, Cathy Shepherd, Becky Lowe, and great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his friend, Jody Biggert, and his long time friends and care givers, Tom Lenz and Ruth Trammell. Bob was preceded in death by his parents. He was also preceded in death by his wife Helenruth, and son Robert, whom he cared for in their long illnesses. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Lindsey, Ohio, where the family will receive friends after 10: 00 A.M. A family graveside service will be held at LaCarpe Cemetery, Lacarne, Ohio, with military graveside rites. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
