Robert R Lucas

Robert R. Lucas, 84, of Marblehead, Ohio died Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky, Ohio. He was born on April 3, 1929 in Marblehead, the son of the late John and Anna (Walland) Lucas. He married Joanne Bollinger on September 14, 1957 and she preceded him in death on December 9, 2008. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served his country during the Korean War. He was in Company D, 223rd Infantry Regiment 40th. He received the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Campaign Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, and the National Defense Service Medal. Bob worked in the Standard Slag quarry in Marblehead until his retirement in 1991. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marblehead and also a lifelong member of the Marblehead VFW Post #7572. His hobbies included vegetable gardening, fishing, watching Cleveland Indians baseball and Cleveland Browns Football. He also had a love for polka music and dancing. Survivors include his daughter: Rose Joanne Lucas- Haninger, of Dublin, Ohio; sons: Robert Joseph Lucas, and Thomas (Maria T.) Lucas, both of Marblehead; granddaughters: Erin Rose Haninger, Laurie Beth Haninger and Alisen J. Lucas; sisters: Anna Marie (Lucas) Mack, of Solon, Ohio, Geraldine (Lucas) Nason, of Marblehead; and brother: John Lucas, of Marblehead, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters: Louise, Frances, Bernice, Mary, and brothers: Larry and Leon. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2013 from 2-8pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marbelehead where members of the Marblehead VFW will conduct military services at 7pm. On Friday, June 7, 2013 additional visitation will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 822 Barclay Street, Marblehead from 9:30am until a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am with Father Daniel J. Ring officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Marblehead along with military honors presented by members of the Marblehead VFW honor guard.
