Robert R. Lenke

Robert R. Lenke, 85, of Oak Harbor died Monday, October 5, 2009 at Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, OH. He was born May 1, 1924 in Port Clinton, OH to the late Fred and Lula Mae (Dixon) Lenke. He was a 1943 graduate of Port Clinton High School then enlisted in the United States Army during World War II. On June 15, 1957 he married the former Anna Mae Foss and she survives. Mr. Lenke was employed by Erie Ordinance Depot, Erie Army Depot, and Northern Manufacturing before retiring in 1989 from the Maintenance Division of the Ohio Turnpike. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor. He also was a Lifetime Member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars; Ottawa County Sherriff Auxiliary; Circle 8 Horse Club, and helped maintain the Ottawa County Fairgrounds for a number of years. Survivors include his wife Anna Mae of Oak Harbor, sons: Daniel (Valerie) Lenke of Palm Harbor, Florida, Paul (Sharon), Mark (Mary), Phillip (Sheila), Michael (Jackie), and Robert Jr. Lenke all of Oak Harbor; daughter Diane Pfanner of Oak Harbor; 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; brothers: Charles Lenke of Oak Harbor, Donald (Sue) Lenke of Caledonia, OH; sister Alice Edwards of Findlay, OH; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Frederick "Jack" Lenke Jr., sisters: Eleanor Joseph, Clarabelle Rochester, Helen Stein and grandson Bradley James Lenke. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-9pm at the Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor. Funeral Services will begin at 1pm Friday, October 9, 2009 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Cheryl Wessel officiating. Burial will be in Salem Township Roose Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Memorial Contributions are directed to Ohio Veterans Home (Alzheimer's Unit), Stein Hospice, or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
