Robert M. Verbryke, Sr., 83, of Elmore, OH died Monday, August 28, 2006 at Genoa Care Center, Genoa, OH. He was born May 5, 1923 in Toledo, OH to the late Edgar M. and Hilda B. (Kuhagen) Verbryke. He was a 1941 graduate of Libbey High School, Toledo, then served in the United States Army during WW II as a rifleman in the 10th Mountain Division stationed in Italy and Northern Africa. On December 14, 1946, he married the former Harriet Krueger at St. John’s Evangelical & Reformed Church, Elmore. Mr. Verbryke was a Lab Operator for DuPont in Toledo for 39 years retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Elmore where he served on the church council, as deacon and trustee, Sunday School Treasurer for 22 years and participated on the Dartball Team. Robert enjoyed reading books at the library, being outdoors, camping, traveling, gardening, and chopping wood. He also loved attending the Woodmore football and basketball games. Survivors include his wife of 59 years Harriet of Elmore, sons: Robert M. (Karen) Verbryke Jr. of Elmore, William H. Verbryke of Elmore, David C. (Linda) Verbryke of Kingston, OH, James C. (Tamara) Verbryke of Marblehead, OH; daughter Lisa M. (John) Fork of Woodville, OH, 6 grandchildren, and 6 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family will receive friends from 2-9 P.M. Wednesday at the Crosser Funeral Home, Elmore. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 31, 2006 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Elmore, with the Rev. Ed Heilman officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Elmore, with American Legion Post #279 conducting military graveside rites.
