Robert L. "Bob" Clemons, 92, of Catawba Island, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, October 8, 2018 at his residence. He was born on May 14, 1926 in Sandusky, Ohio, the son of Allen and Leona (Darr) Clemons. On June 17, 1950 he married Mary Kinney and she preceded him in death on December 15, 2011. Bob was a 1944 graduate of Port Clinton High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II, serving as a radar technician until his honorable discharge in 1947. Bob attended college at Bowling Green State University where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration. After college he worked as a sales manager at Gem Boat Service and Marina on Catawba Island from 1950 through 1965. Bob started his own business in 1966, Clemons Boats, Inc. in Bayview, Ohio where he continued as the owner until his retirement in 1992. The business he founded continues as his legacy over 50 years later, still under family management. Bob was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Port Clinton where he was active in the choir during his retirement. In the 50s he served as President of Catawba Island Chamber of Commerce and also served a term as the commander of the Port Clinton Power Squadron. In the late 70s he served as an officer on the Lake Erie Marine Trades Boat Show Committee. Bob was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as long walks at East Harbor with his dog. He was a quiet man but a powerful leader and lifelong learner. His coffee table was piled with books on economics, business and philosophy and he never missed an opportunity to improve himself or help others. Survivors include his daughters, Carol Clemons (Tom Stuck), Port Clinton, Sally (John) Cipiti, Oak Harbor, Mary Clemons (Chad Martin), Langley, Washington; sons, Daniel (Vicky) Clemons, Port Clinton and John (Sandy) Clemons, Marblehead; grandchildren, Jason Clemons, Brando Reyna, Tara Reyna, Amanda Dove, and Clare Martin; step grandchildren, Kevin Lowe, Matthew Yauk and Michael Yauk; as well as six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary (Kinney) Clemons, his son, Jim Clemons, his brother, Elton Clemons, his grandson, Scott Clemons, and his favorite dog, Gretzky. There will be no visitation and burial services, with Father Tim Ferris officiating, will be private.
