Robert J. Gerding

Robert J. Gerding, 86, of Port Clinton, died Thursday evening July 24, 2008 at Riverview Healthcare Campus in Oak Harbor under the care of Stein Hospice. He was born October 25, 1921 in Port Clinton. Robert was employed by the US Government at the Erie Army Depot and later was an instructor with the Job Corps. After retirement, he worked maintenance at Camp Perry for many years. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 113 of Port Clinton. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret L. (Smith) Gerding on August 12, 2007; his parents Walter and Helen (Snider) Gerding and a sister Eileen St. Clair. Surviving are his daughter Vicki (Robert) Kyle of Columbus; son Robert C. (Marsha) Gerding of Port Clinton; grandchildren Steven (Angie) Gerding, Katie Gerding, Nancy (Steve) Waterhouse and Angela (Dave) Ashbaugh; five great grandchildren; and a brother Charles (Jeaniene) Gerding of Sun City, AZ. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Sunday at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Port Clinton where funeral services will be at 1 pm Monday. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Stein Hospice.
