Robert C. Cawrse

Dr. Robert C. Cawrse, 94, of Catawba Island, died Saturday, October 16, 2010 at his residence. He was born Sept. 9, 1916 in Cleveland, OH the son of Clarence and Elizabeth (Hennessey) Cawrse. He married Mary Jane Braithwaite on Dec. 27, 1939 and she survives. Mr. Cawrse graduated from Lakewood High School in 1934 and received his BA in Education from Baldwin Wallace University. He received his Masters and Doctorate in Education from Western Reserve University. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and he was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Port Clinton. Dr. Cawrse was a teacher and coach for Maple Heights High School; he was a vice-principal and coach for Shaw High School in Cleveland; principal at Rocky River High School in Rocky River; superintendent at Chagrin Falls Schools, Bay Village Schools and Lakewood Schools. Surviving are his wife: Mary Jane Cawrse; sons R. Thomas (Marie) Cawrse, DDS of Seattle, WA, James B. (Susan) Cawrse of Chesapeake, VA; daughter: Susan (Tom) Hodgson of Naples, FL; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and brother: Alan (Norma) Cawrse of North Olmsted, OH.
