Rita J. Greer, 85, of Catawba Island, Ohio died peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, March 29, 2013 at her residence. She was born on June 30, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of the late Stephen J. and Mary T. (Hermes) Winke. She married George J. Greer on August 3, 1946 and he preceded her in death on June 2, 1991. Rita formerly worked as a bookkeeper for the American (Society/Key) Bank and also at Sam Amato Chrysler-Plymouth dealership until her retirement. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Port Clinton; enjoyed watching her Detroit Tigers, Notre Dame Football and Dancing With the Stars. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family. Survivors include her son: James (Beth) Greer, Port Clinton; daughter: Jean (Louis) VanCauwenbergh, Castalia, Ohio; grandchildren: Kelli (Tim) Davis, Fremont; Kim (Bill) Johnson, Sandusky; Derek VanCauwenbergh, Sandusky; Katie (Chris) Rude, Kingsport, Tennessee; Joey (Tracie) Greer, Pioneer, Ohio; Christine (Michael) Williams, Mansfield, Ohio; Ryan (Bonnie) Greer, Lorain, Ohio; Tiffany (Trent) Frisch, Port Clinton, Ohio; great-grandchildren: Molly & Mason Davis, Fremont; Braden & Caleb Greer, Lorain; Lily Johnson, Mansfield and Coen Rude, Kingsport, Tennessee; brothers: Richard (Jean) Winke, Port Clinton; Francis Winke, Oak Harbor; Larry (Debbie) Winke, Indiana; sisters: MaryEllen Raypole, Port Clinton; Laverne (Michael) Ferdon, Port Clinton and Carolyn Kranz, Boyton Beach, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son: Joseph Greer; daughter: Rita Joan Greer; brothers: John, Robert and Gerald Winke; and sisters: Madonna Ashton and Rosella Thompson. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 1, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton. On Tuesday, April 2, 2013, prayers will begin at the funeral home at 9:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison Street, Port Clinton, Ohio, with Father John C. Missler officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice or to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
