Richard L. Zolman, 77, of Elmore, Ohio, died Sunday, December 25, 2011 at Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, on May 11, 1934, the son of George & Bessie (Cutcher) Zolman. Dick was a graduate of the former Harris-Elmore High School, and the University of Toledo. He started his working career at age 9 as a pinsetter at the bowling alley in Elmore. At age 14, Dick worked for Tanks Meats in Elmore, both in the store and the slaughterhouse. Enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1953 near the end of the Korean War, he served until 1956, and again from 1958 to 1968. Dick served in the United States and also for three years in the former West Germany. He retired from the 180th Air National Guard as a Master Sergeant. After his military service, Dick was a systems analyst at Bowling Green State University and also taught computer science at Terra Community College in Fremont. He operated an electric business from his home, and was the Ottawa County electrical inspector for several years. Dick was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Elmore, where he was a former president of the church council and Sunday School teacher. He was also a member of American Legion Post #279 in Elmore. On June 11, 1955, Dick married the former Mary Ann Kuhlman, and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Cynthia (Jeff) Little, Genoa, Ohio, Richard (Jeanne) Zolman, Jr., Westerville, Ohio, and Judith (Todd) Baechle, Fort Collins, Colorado; grandchildren, Morgan (Jenny) Little, Brianne Little, Leah Baechle, Alyssa Baechle, and Mariah Baechle; great-grandsons, Tyler and Kayden; and sisters, Nancy Egert, Millbury, Ohio, Sandy (John) Harmon, Millersport, Ohio, and Janet (Ken) Myers, The Villages, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Clarence Egert. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday and 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Thursday at the Crosser Funeral Home, Elmore-Genoa Chapel, 19550 West State Route 51. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at St. John United Church of Christ, Elmore, where friends may call after 10:00 A.M. Friday. The Rev. William Bartholomew will officiate, and interment will be in Harris-Elmore Union Cemetery, where American Legion Post #279 will conduct graveside rites.
