Richard E. “Rick” Claar, 66, of Elmore, Ohio, passed away Monday, November 29, 2021 at his home following a sudden illness. He was born in Fremont, Ohio on June 30, 1955, a son of Jack & Marilyn (Hein) Claar. Known to village residents as “Mr. Elmore”, Rick was the current mayor of the Village of Elmore, and was the President of the Elmore Historical Society. A graduate of Woodmore Schools, he was also employed with them for the last several years. He owned the Elmore Five & Dime for many years. At one time, Rick operated Big D’s at Raceway Park in Toledo and was active in Harness Racing. He was an original member of the 4th Turn Freaks. In his earlier years, he worked at the Lime Plant in Woodville, and Atlas Industries. Rick was an avid fan of The Ohio State University Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns. Surviving is his significant other of many years, Jackie Rober, Toledo, OH, and brother, Don Claar, Northwood, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Peggy Cly. Visitation will be from 2-8 PM Friday at Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Elmore-Genoa Chapel, 19550 W. S.R. 51. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday. in the gym at Woodmore High School, 633 Fremont St., Elmore. Pastor Margaret Mills will officiate, and interment will follow at Harris-Elmore Union Cemetery.
