Richard A. Relyea

Richard A. Relyea, 81, of Bloomfield Hills, MI, and formerly of Fayetteville, NY and Toledo, OH, died Monday at the William Beaumont Hospital, Troy, MI. He was born in Toledo on March 18, 1926, the son of Allen D. & Anna M.C. (Stahl) Relyea. Mr. Relyea was a graduate of the University of Toledo, with a degree in engineering. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines. An engineer for the aerospace industry, Mr. Relyea was a long time employee of General Electric Aerospace, Syracuse, NY, where he worked in developing sonar, radar, and guidance systems for the space program. He greatly enjoyed fishing and was an accomplished wood worker, having built a museum quality dollhouse which took him nine years to complete. On August 12, 1950, he married the former Norma J. Lewis, and she preceded him in death on November 11, 2000. Mr. Relyea is survived by his daughters, Linda Relyea and her husband, John Chapman, of Andover, MA, Rise Schumann and her husband Bob, of Marcellus, NY, and Anita Stoddard and her husband Chris, of Bloomfield Hills, MI; grandchildren, Miranda & William Stoddard, and David & Katia Chapman; sisters, Violet Sturgill, Toledo, and June Sengstock, Bowling Green, OH. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents. The family will receive friends after 10:30 A.M. Saturday at the Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday. Rev. David A. Voll will officiate, and interment will be in Elliston Cemetery, Elliston, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
