Rev. Warren R. Tropf

Rev. Warren R. Tropf, 88, of Lakeside, OH died Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton, OH. He was born August 2, 1923 in Cleveland, the son of the late Ralph and Gladys (Rickel) Tropf. He married Martha Joan Powell on March 11, 1950 and she survives. Warren was a United States Army veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre in World War II. He was a graduate of John Adams High School, Cleveland, North Central University, Naperville, IL and the College of Divinity at Yale University in 1951. He was a minister at First Methodist, Cleveland; Windham Methodist, Windham; Nottingham Methodist, Cleveland and Westlake United Methodist Church in Westlake where he stayed for 24 years until retiring in 1986 when he and his wife moved to Lakeside. Warren was the secretary of the East Ohio Conference for many years and served on the board and was past-president of the East Ohio Conference Credit Union, he was a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church where he was active in the church choir, Methodist men, taught Sunday school, played dart ball and served on the mission committee. He was the coordinator of the Sunday devotions at Otterbein Northshore retirement village and for 18 years he organized the vespers services at Lakeside. Surviving are his wife: Joan; sons: Nathan (Carol) Tropf on Upland, IN, Dr. Thomas (Suzanne) Tropf of Findlay, OH; daughter: Lois (James) Garringer of Muncie, IN; grandchildren: Shannon, Lauren, Jared, Jonathan, Jason, Kristen, Katie, Peter and Matthew; great-grandchildren: Sonya Anne, Savanah Grace, Landon Timothy; brother: David Tropf of Ovieda, FL and sister: Dora Cureton of Fort Wayne, IN. He was preceded in death by his brother: Ralph Tropf. Memorial services will be conducted 2:00 pm on Friday, August 19, 2011 at Lakeside United Methodist Church, Lakeside, OH with Reverend Jerry Phelps officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 until the time of the service. Memorial services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Westlake United Methodist Church, Westlake, OH. Memorial contributions may be given to Lakeside United Methodist Church, Westlake United Methodist Church or the donor's choice.
