Raymond Henry Durdel, 98 of Elmore, OH died Sunday, November 25, 2012 at Genoa Retirement Village, his home for 8 years in Assisted Living. He was born May 8, 1914 in Elmore to the late Edward and Della (Rothert) Durdel. On August 7, 1948 he married the former Meryle B. Price who preceded him in death November 29, 2009. He served in the United States Army during WW II where he spent 3 years in Europe and took part in the "Battle of the Bulge". Raymond was a supervisor/manager for various trucking companies. He was a member of St. Paul Trinity United Methodist Church, Elmore and American Legion Post 279 where he was a past commander. He also served as Mayor of Elmore from 1956- 1961. Survivors include his children: Kathryn (Ed) Magsig of Elmore, OH, Rex (Sharon) Durdel of Cleveland, OH, and Ted (Debra) Durdel of Cleveland, OH; sister Eleanor Berlekamp of Fremont, OH; 5 granddaughters; 3 step- grandsons; and 1 great- grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 61 years Meryle, brothers Clifford and Keith Durdel, and sisters Mildred Bartha and Kathryn Durdel. The family valued the partnership of Hospice services along with Genoa Care providers and would like to thank Larry Hohenbrink, whose friendship greatly added to Ray's quality of life. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3-7pm at the Crosser Funeral Home, Elmore- Genoa Chapel. Funeral Services will begin at 11am Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Melissa Steinecker officiating. Burial will be in Harris- Elmore Union Cemetery where Military Graveside services will be given by American Legion Post 279, Elmore. Memorial Contributions may be given to either Northwest Ohio Hospice or American Legion Post 279. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.crosserfuneralhome.com.
