Raymond A. Travis, 92 of Elmore, OH passed away Friday, November 4, 2022 at ProMedica Memorial Hospital in Fremont, OH under Hospice care, with his family by his side. He was born March 14, 1930 in South Webster, OH to the late Samuel J. and Sarah E. (Chandler) Travis. Ray was a 1949 graduate of Beaver High School, Beaver, OH. On July 7, 1951 he married the former Ida P. Maynard and she survives. Ray was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War.
Following an Honorable Discharge, he served as an Ohio State Highway Patrolman for several years. He then began an insurance claims career at Shelby Mutual Insurance Company and ultimately finished his career owning his own insurance claims adjusting business, American Adjustment Company. He was a member of Woodville United Methodist Church, Woodville, and American Legion Post #279, Elmore. Ray loved flying and was a licensed pilot. He also enjoyed building houses and fixing things.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Ida of Elmore; son Jeffrey (Barbara) Travis of Elmore; daughters Diana (John) Puffenbarger of Fairfax Station, VA and Denise Paule of Elmore; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister Betty Lou Fout of Frazeysburg, OH; sister-in-law Jean Travis of Waverly, OH and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law Barrett J. Paule; brother Samuel “Willie” Travis Jr. and brother-in-law Robert Fout.
Private Services will be held by the family. Burial will be in Harris-Elmore Union Cemetery, Elmore. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woodville United Methodist Church or ProMedica Hospice, Fremont.
