Ralph C. Gyde

Ralph C. Gyde, 84, formerly of Oak Harbor, OH died Monday, August 26, 2013 at Ohio Veteran's Home, Sandusky, OH. He was born July 12, 1929 in Carroll Township to the late Clayton A. and Fern E. (Williams) Gyde. He was in the first fifth grade class of the consolidated Carroll Elementary School and graduated from Salem-Oak Harbor High School in 1947. Ralph helped on the farm but also was employed at Defiance Metal Weather-Strip in Oak Harbor then went on to Coyne Electric Trade School in Chicago, after which he was employed at Kiemle Electric in Toledo, Ohio. In January 1951 he was drafted into the United States Army for two years of duty. He was stationed at NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers of Europe near Paris during its formation under the command of General Dwight D. Eisenhower. In 1961, he started working with the Cancer Research Foundation of Toledo and Pathology laboratories as a Lab Technician from which he retired following 33 years. After retirement, Ralph moved back to Carroll Township, working part-time with his brother, Bill, at Turtle Creek Marina. He was a member of American Legion Post 114, Oak Harbor. Ralph is survived by his brother, William (Janis) Gyde of Oak Harbor, and sister-in-law, Donna Gyde, of Oak Harbor and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Beryl Gyde, and sister and brother-in-law, Lila & Melvin Wittman. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8 pm at the Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, August 30, 2013 at the funeral home with the Rev. David A. Voll officiating. Interment will be in Locust Point Cemetery, Carroll Township, where Military Honors will be presented. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Ohio Veteran's Home.
