PAUL EUGENE HENDRICKS April 24, 1924 – July 16, 2011 Paul E. Hendricks, 87, of Port Clinton, Ohio passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 16, 2011 in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, surrounded by his loving family. Paul was born April 24, 1924 in Vanlue, Ohio, son of Howard and Eva (Orwick) Hendricks. He was a 1942 graduate of Fostoria High School. In January, 1943 he enlisted and served proudly in the Army for the Amphibian Engineers, 1462nd Engineer Boat Maintenance Company, 3rd Engineer Special Brigade, building a boat assembly building and marine railway and assembling and maintaining landing craft throughout the Pacific Operations during World War II. He was awarded 3 Bronze Stars and a Presidential Unit Citation for his war efforts. He married his bride of 65 years, Elaine Semler in 1946. He is survived by her and three daughters, Barb (Bob) Boebel, Mansfield, OH, Beverly (Larry) McNulty, Fremont, OH, and Bonda(Tom) Young, Reno, NV. He was preceded in death by a son, Paul Jr., his parents, sister Betty, brother Dale, and a great-granddaughter. He also leaves behind a sister, Shirley Pierce, along with seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In 1951, he started work as a Tool and Die Maker and Machine Repairman for Port Clinton Manufacturing Company before being appointed General Manager of their marine division, Minderman Marine in 1967. He retired from the company in 1986. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He served as the very first president of Bataan Elementary School PTO and on the first advisory board of E.H.O.V.E. Vocational School. He was involved in Boy Scouts and was a 32nd degree Mason of Oliver H. Perry Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the Port Clinton American Legion, VFW #2480, AMVETS Post 17, Moose Lodge #1610 and the Elks Lodge #1718. He loved traveling and camping and was an avid hunter, golfer and fisherman. Friends may call on Saturday, July 23, 2011 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm with a memorial service following at Neidecker, LeVeck& Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, Ohio. A private interment will be held. His wish was for everyone is to do your best for your fellow man.
