Paul G. Sweda

Paul G. Sweda, 86, of Elyria, Ohio passed away on Monday, April 11, 2016 at his son's residence in Port Clinton, Ohio. He was born on January 12, 1930 in Brighton, Ohio, the son of the late Joseph and Susan (Sprock) Sweda. He graduated in 1948 from Brighton High School, and attended Case Western University. He worked in insurance and sold Real Estate for over 40 years, and also worked as a contactor in the construction business. He was the former mayor of North Ridgeville, Ohio. While in North Ridgeville, he also founded and managed "The Light" newspaper which was published weekly; he was chairman of the democratic party and a member of the Planning Commission and Board of Appeals. After moving to Elyria, he was a member of the Board of Appeals and was also an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association. Paul enjoyed playing baseball and at one time was offered a position on the Chicago White Sox farm team. He also enjoyed playing racket ball and tennis. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns and also The Ohio State Buckeyes. He enjoyed good food and will be missed by his loving family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Linda; daughters, Renee and Susan; sons, Jack and Ryan, daughter in law, Amy; grandsons, Christopher, Nicholas and Corbin; granddaughter, Hayden; great-granddaughter, Payton; and brother, Richard; as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Susan; son, Thomas; sisters, Helen and Elsie; and a brother, George.
