Paul F. Mortus, 91, of Port Clinton, OH died Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton. He was born in Port Clinton on May 24, 1931, a son of the late Louis & Freda (Balduf) Mortus.
On February 3, 1951, Paul married Virginia Patz, and she preceded him in death on April 25, 2001 after over 50 years of marriage. Paul worked at the former Erie Army Depot, and retired from U.S. Gypsum in 1989, where he was a forklift operator. After retirement he worked part-time for Baumann’s in Port Clinton driving cars, visiting many states. He also worked for a few years at the National Matches operating the theater. A member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton, Paul was a charter member of the Erie Township Fire Department, where he faithfully served the community for 45 years, 3 years as assistant chief and 15 years as chief.
He is survived by his son, Marty (Stephanie) Mortus, Port Clinton; brothers, Jack Mortus and Robert Mortus, both of Port Clinton. Paul was also preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Mortus and Norman Mortus.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday at Neidecker, Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1124 Fulton St., Port Clinton, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 3, 2023. Fr. Jonathon Wight will officiate, and interment will follow at LaCarpe Cemetery, Erie Township.
