P. Neil Glaser

A remembrance: P. Neil Glaser, Cleveland architect, artist, family man LAKESIDE, Ohio -- He loved tennis, traveling and gardening. He was an accomplished architect, a talented painter and respected teacher. But most of all, Neil Glaser was a devoted family man husband, father, grandfather. He passed away peacefully on September 26, 2017, near Lakeside, Ohio. He will be missed. Philipp Neil Glaser was born on Dec. 18, 1938, to Rudy and Helen Glaser, in Maumee, Ohio, and grew up in nearby Fostoria with his older brother, Fritz. He has degrees in architecture from the Ohio State University and the University of Washington. In 1961, he married Judy Kerr, whom he met at Ohio State. They would enjoy 56 wonderful years together. They have three children: Amy (Jo Lovell), Susan (Steven Brunot) and Michael (Jodi). And four grandchildren: Rachel and Sarah Brunot and Ethan and Elliot Glaser. He and Judy raised their family in Shaker Heights and Cleveland, where he worked as an architect for nearly 40 years, designing libraries, schools and commercial buildings. He designed one residence his retirement home in Lakeside, Ohio, on the shore of Lake Erie. He and Judy spent the past 17 years traveling back and forth between Lakeside and Sanibel Island, Florida. They have many wonderful friends in both states. In retirement, Neil took up watercolor painting as a hobby and it became almost a second career. His award-winning work has appeared in galleries and art shows in Ohio and Florida, and decorates the walls in hundreds of homes and businesses. He was a history buff and served for a time as the president of the Cleveland Civil War Roundtable (and enjoyed dragging his kids to Civil War battlefields during numerous summer vacations). Among our many enduring memories: --Long walks on the beach, looking for shells. --Art classes with the grandkids. --Cheering on the Buckeyes. --Camping trips to Carter Caves and Natural Bridge state parks in Kentucky. --Late evenings playing cards ("this is a stupid game"). --Masterful hamburgers, scrambled eggs and shrimp cocktail. --Early Sunday morning newspaper deliveries, with Michael. --Family trips to Mexico, North Carolina and the west coast of Michigan. A private family service will take place late this year, with a celebration of life planned for next year in Lakeside. Contributions in Neil's name may be made to Lakeside, Stein Hospice in Sandusky, and the American Civil Liberties Union.
