Oscar E. Chasteen

Oscar E. Chasteen, 87 of Elmore, OH died Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, OH. He was born August 8, 1924 in Hamilton, OH to the late Wallace and Ruth (Lewis) Chasteen. He then served his country in the United States Army. On September 1, 1976 he married the former Winnie Osenbaugh and she survives. He retired from Conrail as a conductor in 1982 and owned and operated A1 Septic Tank Cleaning in Millbury, OH for many years. Oscar attended St. John's United Church of Christ, Elmore and held memberships in the American Legion Post #324 in Genoa before transferring to Post #279 Elmore and the Elmore Golden Oldies Senior Center. He loved his dogs, his wife and traveling to Florida during the winter months. Survivors include his wife Winnie of Elmore; sons: Buddy (Jacque) Chasteen of Oak Harbor, OH, Donald (Sue) Chasteen of Millbury, OH, Charles Chasteen of Tiffin, OH, Terry Chasteen of Washington D.C.; daughters: Karen (Steve) Knox of Brunswick, GA, Marie Harrison of Tiffin; grandchildren: Traci (Bryan) Gentry, Matthew, Craig, and Scott Chasteen, Jena Harrison; brother Donald (Joan) Chasteen of Ocala, FL; sister Irene (Paul) Floro of Elmore; many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by brothers: William Sr. and Wallace Chasteen and sisters Blanche Thompson and Florence Volschow. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 11, 2012 at St. John's United Church of Christ, Elmore beginning at 11am with the Rev. William L. Bartholomew officiating. The family will receive friends at the church 1 hour prior to the service beginning. Burial will be in Harris- Elmore Union Cemetery, Elmore, OH.
