Opal F. Woodruff

Opal F. Woodruff, 92, of Port Clinton, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky, Ohio. She was born on September 18, 1921 in Omar, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Homer and Martha (Howard) Floyd. She married Forest Woodruff in October 1959 and he preceded her in death. Opal began her working career at Timkins & Ross Lab in Columbus, Ohio and then during the war she belonged to the USO and also worked at the Curtis Wright Plant in Columbus as a riveter and welder. She retired from Van Dyne Crotty-Acme Linen & Supply Company in Columbus after many years. She was also a Border Guard in Arizona; and worked at the Rose Bowl Parade while living in California. She attended Firelands Presbyterian Church, Port Clinton; and was a member of the Marblehead Lighthouse Society. She loved to travel and had an artistic ability which led her to her love of painting, mainly latex. Survivors include her daughter: Dorothy (Harold) Douglass, Port Clinton; grandson: David (Soni) Douglass, Powell, Ohio; great-grandchildren: John Shoemaker, Tara (Jared) Miller; great-great-granddaughters: Ava and Alexis Miller; nephews: John Steven (Wendy) Floyd, Lockbourne, Ohio; Tim (Debbie) Floyd, Marysville, Ohio; niece: Bonnie (Richard) Evans, Stockton, California; as well as several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother: John Floyd and half brother: Otha Dailey. Burial and graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at 12:00pm at Catawba Island Cemetery, 4827 E. Cemetery Road, Port Clinton, with Pastor Jeanne Gay officiating.
