Norman J. Smith, 82 of Genoa, OH died Friday, June 23, 2023 at his home. He was born October 1, 1940 in Toledo, OH to the late Raymond C. and Irene (George) Smith. He was a 1958 graduate of Lake High School and served his country in the United States Marine Corps. On December 23, 1961 he married Joyce C. Brossia and she survives. Norman was a Salesman for Kirkby Machinery, Roppel Industrial, and sold steel in Toledo for many years. He retired from PTI in Walbridge, OH as a driver. He was a member of Bethel Church, Elmore and the Genoa Athletic Boosters. He served as a youth baseball coach in Genoa and was a member of the Genoa Park Board. He was inducted into the Lake High School Hall of Fame as a member of the 1956 State Baseball Team. He was an avid golfer and was a member at the Oak Harbor Golf Course. He was also a faithful Cleveland (Indians) Guardians fan and loved to watch his grandchildren participate in their many sports and activities.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years Joyce of Genoa; daughter Jodi (John) Poggemeyer of Spartanburg, SC; son Scott (Michelle) Smith of Curtice, OH; grandchildren: Joel (Kerri) Poggemeyer, Jay Poggemeyer, Jeremy Poggemeyer, Johni Poggemeyer, Erica Smith, and Ethan Smith; great- grandson Heath Poggemeyer; brothers: Raymond “Butch” Smith and Terry (Mona) Smith; sisters Pam Smith and Linda (Tom) Wildman, Sister-in-law, Lucille Smith and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Donald, Marvin, and Kenny Smith, sister Marlene Workman, and sisters-in-law Rosie Smith and Marianne Smith.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8pm at Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Elmore- Genoa Chapel. Funeral Services will begin at 11am on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Bethel Church, Elmore, OH with Pastor Tim Sherman and Terry Smith officiating. Burial will be private at Lake Township Cemetery.
